Adult Training

Troop 215 strongly encourages all parents to take the Boy Scout leader basic training courses described on this page. This helps all parents understand and assist in achieving the troop’s program and goals.

All adults holding a leadership position in the troop must be properly trained to maximize the quality of our troop. Many courses are offered online and are simple to master. All online training classes require obtaining an account on My.Scouting.org and all adults should create an account as soon as they obtain a membership ID which is provided as soon as the adult application is processed.

Supplemental Training Opportunities

University of Scouting

The University of Scouting is the only time during the year where you can find, all in one place, the widest variety of training opportunities in all program areas (Cub Scouts, Scouts BSA, Venturing, Sea Scouting, District Operations, and Council). Courses are designed to help Scouters improve skills and increase knowledge about Cub Scouting, Scouts BSA, Commissioner Service and related subjects. Learn how Scouting works through interactive training and true to life examples of how to make the program a positive life experience for today's youth. The course selection is varied so that regardless of unit position, you will gain something to take back and implement in your unit. Offered by Council once a year.

Wood Badge

Wood Badge is the most advanced training available for adult leaders of the Boy Scouts of America. Wood Badge graduates will be able to view Scouting as a family of interrelated, values-based programs that provide age-appropriate activities for youth; to recognize the contemporary leadership concepts utilized in corporate America that are relevant to our values based movement; to apply the skills they learn from their participation as a member of a successful working team; and to revitalize their commitment by sharing in an overall inspirational experience that helps provide Scouting with the leadership it needs to accomplish its mission on an ongoing basis.

The Wood Badge experience will consist of two weekends. During the first weekend, participants will be divided into groups that will operate as a patrol throughout the Wood Badge Course. Dining and sleeping arrangements will be provided for you. The second weekend will involve an outdoor experience for participants where the patrols provide for their own shelter, equipment and meals.

Offered every 2 years through Council.
